Every 6 months for partial dentures and once a year for complete dentures. Because partial dentures have more aspects to them, such as clasps, they need to me cleaned and monitored regularly. Complete dentures need to be cleaned by patients, but yearly visits help the dentist screen for any irregularities of the gums.

When you are wearing partial dentures, absolutely you should get your teeth cleaned 3-6 months based on the instructions by the hygienist at Value Smiles. Also partial dentures take support from the teeth so even the anchor teeth should be checked for decay or gum disease.
• Do I need to wear the denture during the night?
Dentures do not need to be worn every night. In the first week, we suggest wearing them during the night in order to get acclimated. In patients, that grind their teeth, wearing dentures at night poses a risk of fracture.

In some cases, irritation of the gums will result in soreness and inflammation. If this happens, visit our office in Lithia Springs as soon as possible for us to make adjustments to the denture.
• Can I eat with my dentures?
Yes, we recommend eating soft and small portion foods. Avoid eating sticky or chewy foods, initially. Adapting to the dentures will take a few weeks, as will eating food.
• Will I need a “glue” or fixative?
You may not need an adhesive, because if your dentures are loose we can reline them to your current bone structure. However, if you are not able to visit our office, then you may use a denture adhesive temporarily. There are some instances when you don’t have enough room then you might have to use denture adhesive for more retention or security.
• If I do use adhesives, will it be hard to remove it and will it hurt?
If the appropriate amount of adhesive is used, there should not be an excess amount left on the gums. There are different ways to remove the denture, with a gauze, wet cloth, tissue, or a moist toothbrush. Please ask your dentist at Lithia Springs dentist office.
• What happens if I don’t wear dentures?
Without dentures, you will lose the basic functions necessary for daily life, such as loss of support for the cheeks, chewing and eating, and speaking. Furthermore, the jaw relationship can be thrown off if they do not articulate in the proper orientation, resulting in the jaw joint (TMJ) problems. Most of all the esthetics of your smile will be missing.
• What do I do if my lower denture become loose?
Lower dentures are more prone to loosening due to the shape of the arch. Unlike the upper arch, the lower arch is smaller and fewer retentive elements. The tongue is another factor affecting the retention of the denture. Most of the patients get a great result with Implants. Please discuss about implants with Value Smiles dentist.
• Can the teeth on the partial denture be colored similar to my natural teeth?
Yes, the lab technician can use stains that resemble your existing teeth. As explained before Value Smiles uses local labs and the lab technician come regularly to make custom shade for our patients at no extra charge.

In this case, do not try to repair the denture yourself or continue to wear it. Come to our dental office in Lithia Springs and we will have the lab repair it or create a new one. If you have to wear it due to cosmetic reasons, then please use denture adhesive and also use limited time only.
• If a denture is not able to be made on my lower arch due to its anatomy, can anything be done to have a denture?
Depending on the amount of bone and soft tissue present, bone grafts can be added to elevate the arch and capable of holding a denture. Placing Dental Implants will solve the problem
